Waiting for the Christmas Holidays

Hi All, we are guaranteed a white Christmas here in Novosibirsk and few other things, activities and shows don't stop during this holiday time but actually grow.

Here the first taste of what is waiting for us in December. On Wednesday December, 9 the German Film Festival will open at the Cinema Pobeda. A rich program presents 3 new and pluri-awarded German films per day. To mention only few that you might have heard of: Vodka and Whisky a drama-comedy that will be on Friday at 6.30pm and more Hilde on Saturday night at 8pm.

Italian Film Festival in Novosibirsk

The Italian Film Festival opens tomorrow at Cinema Pobeda and will last till next Monday (November 16). It offers a rich program to celebrate classic and new Italian movies and the always good relationship existed between Russian and Italian art and culture. This year the films showed are mainly recent movies celebrating the new Italian wave of important and already popular young directors that flourished in the last years.
Here below you can find the schedule for this rich 5 days of Italian movies and my comments on some of those movies that I know of. The movies will be shown in Italian with English subtitles (don't ask me why) and with a translator present in the room (don't ask me why here either), a part from 2 movies that have been already dubbed in Russian: "Gamorra" e ''Night of Caribia''

In my opinion definitely worth seeing ''Gamorra'' a film based on the best seller book written by Roberto Saviano a prominent young author that conducted deep researches and has real experience in the mafia environment of Napoli and southern Italy.
Very interesting could also be the film ''Family friend'', in fact the director found inspiration for this movie during an adventorous trip to Siberia.

From Jazz to Blues - November Highlights

In this November session we have a close look at what the Philarmonic theatre in Novosibirsk is offering. The program is definitely a full one, there are concerts or performances on almost everyday.

The followings seem to be fresh and could be particularly of interest for our audience:

• The group ''Jazz do it'' will perform on Saturday, November 14 starting at 18.30
• More on the classical side a ''Fantasy mix'' of different Operas' themes, a good introduction to whom is interested in operas and wants to know more about them before listening to a full one. On Friday, November 20th starting at 18.30
• Going back to modern contemporary style of music, on Tuesday November 24th the evening will offer a Blues Guitar night with melodies and songs from the 80's, 90's and latest (18.30 start)
• For lovers of Italian melodic music, on Wednesday November 25th, will be possible to listen to Italian operas, operette, arie and songs from classic Italian movies (18.30 start)
• Last but not least Jean Claude Gallotte a French Director presents his Modern Ballet on Friday, November 27th from 19.30

International Music Festival - Jazz Jeans

For all Jazz fans and non, next week will see 3 full days of Jazz music with 4 different bands and different international guests playing. From October 22nd through 24th at DK Stroiteli* in Novosibirsk 3 groups will animate the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Starting with Big Band a great jazz band that has already many times performed in the House of Scientists supported by 3 special guests, one from the States and 2 from germany.

On Friday, 23 the, DK Stroiteli will host 3 different bands: the Siberian Diksilend with Roy Young from the States, the Quartet with Igor Dimitrieva and Billy Evans as special guest for the Trio of Alex Nakimovski.

And if you still want to go with the jazz flow there are two different events to listen to jazz music on Saturday, 24th. Again at DK Stroiteli 2 special guests from the States who will complete the ''International Band'' in the final night of Jazz Jeans festival.

At Izum (the club founded by Ibrahim Ivanovich) not far from the city centre Jim Shein will perform starting from 9pm.

Welcoming the Golden Autumn (hopefully without rain)

Summer is definetely at an end and autumn is opening in front of us, if the weather decides to give us a couple more sunny week ends there are few activities that I would recommend to try. In the city at the underground stop ЗАЭЛЬЦОВКА (zaeltzovka) a nice, wide park has been open with roller blades routes, place for skate boarders, runners, play grounds for kids surrounded by green which always helpw and it is much needed in Novosibirsk. A good attraction in this park and from this park is also the fact that you can get the train from there and get off directly at the Novosibirsk Zoo Park, another place definetely worth a visit with lots of attractions, well kept and pretty impressive.

For something a bit different Экосапиенс (here is the link with some info details http://akbeli.ru/about.html) a group of people who organizes outdorr activities is inviting everybody who would like to play, spend some time outside, try some wood land challenges in a beautiful part of the forest not far from Morozovo, this saturday for a ''Golden Autumn'' event. Entry fee is 350r for adults and free for children. I would highly recommend this place and to get in touch with them, they can organize team building events, birthday parties anything will be with a bit of adventure. If you can't manage to go there this saturday, they are open all year round just need to book the place as it can get pretty booked up.

I also want to recommend a couple of events ''indoor'' just in case the weather turns out to be pretty bad.
At the Opera&Ballet Theatre this Friday, September 18 a great premiere ПРЕМЬЕРА!

To give you a bit more time to get ready for it on October, 27 also at the Opera&Ballet Theatre will take place a concert called ''Solisti from Moscow'' playing with Stradivari violins on a program that includes Bach, Mozart, Brahams and more....
